    Newbie here from Georgia.
I'm a Vietnam era Veteran (US Army), medically retired on disability since 2003, wife is a "domestic engineer".
We just settled into our little piece of Heaven this past June.
Taking a little time to get the gardens in place, etc.
Just wanted to stop in and introduce ourselves. :)

    Hi Redneck,

Welcome to Homesteading Today. You'll have to tell us about your little peice of heaven. Are you planning on any animals or just veggies?

    Hi and welcome!

You'll find this board interesting, informative, and sometimes even surprising :)

We just bought our place in March, so we aren't very far ahead of you - but we have just planted our small orchard, DH has plowed up a large area for a garden, and we have goats, pigs, and chickens. Plus the usual assortment of lazy hangers on that expect us to support them (i.e. dogs and cats - though they do have SOME use ;) ) The pigs will be going to freezer camp in a couple of months, and we hope to get a calf to raise for beef before too long.

    Enjoy the board!

    Welcome!!
If you like reading what others are doing, this is a great place.
We are retired military and live in Central Wa. State. I love the country life. We retired in 1980 and we bought a farm in 1984. We bought a old farm and then we sub devided and got a manufacture home, now our son lives in it and we build our own home in 1994. We have raised beds for gardening. We have a chicken house and cow shed but no animals right now. We have been enjoying traveling these last few years. We bought a beef from a friend this year for our freezer, that is sure expensive. My husband got tired of hauling and feeding hay. If things got bad we have everything to get back into animals.
Say Hi to the Wife and tell her lots of good ideas here for her too.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
We're just gonna do veggies (mostly heirlooms - I don't like GMOs!) and of course, flowers (gotta feed the soul, too!)
With my limited mobility and other health issues not gonna have animals.
Got plenty of friends and neighbors to barter veggies with for meat.
We've got almost seven acres here (perfect rectangle) - the back 2 acres or so are still wooded with mixed pines, some hardwoods and PLENTY of deer since we are right next to 100+ acres that is unoccupied by man!
