How do I take gas out of my truck and get it into my car?
You need a hose that will go from the tank into a can for starters. To get the gas coming out you need a suction device (and don't use your mouth). They sell a cheap thing at auto parts stores that you can use. If you're stuck at home I'd look for something to create the suction...I'm trying to think of something that would do it. Maby a bike pump? It has to be big enough to get a "draw" from the hose...enough to pull up the gas past the highest point of the hose.
How new is the truck? Many newer vehicles are designed so they can not be siphoned from. You might have to remove the filler neck from the tank to get the gas out. A siphon designed for gas only costs $2-3 at any auto parts store. Don't try to be cheap and do without, unless you like the taste of gasoline. If you are stranded, you can place one end of a piece of plastic tubing in the gasoline, suck on the other end (only do this if you have no other recourse), and once you can see the gasoline in the tube, transfer the other end to a gas can, the other vehicle etc. Keep the gasoiline in the siphon below the level of the tank. Siphoning works best if you are transfering from a high point to a low point. I would get a gas can and transfer a few gallons at a time.
Use a piece of clear tubing so you can see the gas and not end up getting it in your mouth.
Suck on the tube holding it straight up until you have a couple feet of gas in it and then drop it quickly into a gascan that's sitting lower than the tank.
Many vehicle gas tanks have a drain plug on the bottom.
Extinguish all nearby flames.
Don't swallow it!
If you suck on the hose, don't inhale it either. You WILL get pneumonia if you do. Gas theft used to be not unusual, and some theives found out about the dangers of inhaling the hard way.
I didn't think you can sipghon out of the newer vehicles either. However way back down in the 70's and early 80's we use to take a fairly long peice of garden hose and shove it almost all the way down into the tank. Then place your thumb over the end sticking out and quickly pull the hose out far enough to reach your canister and let the thumb off. This would create a vacuum and the gas would automatically prime without having to stick your mouth to the hose at all. But you must have a fairly long hose to keep from pulling it all the way out of the tank.
This only works if the fuel tank is fairly airtight. Get your hose, and a damp rag.. Insert hose into tank, Then stuff the damp rag around the hose in the filler neck making itas airtight as possible. Thenholding your hand on the rag, BLOW into the hose as hard as you can, then immediatly put the hose into the catch can. Once the fuel starts to flow, remove the rag.
Basically you are pressureizzing the tank and the that pressure forces the fuel back out the hose and then siphoin process begins.
Much safer than sucking on a gas line!!!
......................My solution....I bought a cheap low pressure , low volume electric fuel pump . Then I attached about 10 feet of 5\16's Fuel hose to the Suction side of the pump . Then , makeup a power cable of 14 ga. wire made to whatever length you will need , say 15 feet . Then , wire the power cable to a receptacle that plugs into your cigarette lighter . Now , take the fuel house and push it into the fuel tank via the fillup tube . LAY the fuel pump .....ON the Ground and plug it in . The fuel pump MUST be below the fuel tank of the vehicle for this to work . Give the pump 5 minutes or so to get primed . Have a fuel tank ready and as soon as the fuel starts flowing direct the flow into the fuel tank . You will need a short piece of fuel hose on the output ( 2 feet or so) to direct the flow . Always try to keep the fuel pump as low as Possible . I just lay mine on the ground because the pump will pump the fuel UP HILL into your tank . ...It sure beats the taste of gas and it it's alot faster than trying to siphon gas with one of those Squeeze Bulb pumps . fordy...
Get one of the cheap k-1 pumps from 1 $ store it has a red pump on it and clear plastic hose add a piece of hose to suction end and tighten down screw thing on top and pump away or the auto parts store has one with along clear hose about 1/4 inch about same as other pump and transfer away. I have a uncle who got burned by siphoning gas on both his legs it kept him from getting drafted/ enlisting during Vet Nam. It caught fire from exhaust I believe so he couldn't go and my dad enlisted to go before he got drafted. Be careful When I was on Fire dept saw quite a few things like this and it's not a pretty site and if you do spill it on you make sure you take all soaked clothes off before going in the house. Then get a plastic bucket and put clothes in it and add dawn soap to it and warm water to get some of it out them put in washer by themselves. Later Matt
if the truck has a inline fuel filter. remove that and drain the fuel into a bucket.
