We just had 4 hogs butchered and kept 1 sow to breed in the spring. Previously we kept feed to them 24/7, but now with just one that we aren't planning to butcher we don't want to waste feed. How much should we feed her twice daily? She probably weighs about 300+ lbs. I would like to back her down some.

    Thanks !

I would put her on 1 1/2 cans per day. Then if she doesn't lose, cut her back to one can (coffee 5# size). We maintain our sows on 5#/day. We give an extra pound at night in the winter.
We feed once a day in the summer months though. You are smart to back her off. If she is too heavy, she may not cycle and if she does, she may not breed or carry her litter.

Not more than 5 lbs per day of 12% protein ration. A too fat sow is trouble when trying to have pigs.
