    Good day Folks

Can anyone tell me a rule of thumb for acreage/sheep for Icelandic Sheep? We just made an offer on a place that was a little smaller then we were looking at originally. It is about 7 acres (only about 2 clear) and I’m trying to figure out how many sheep the land can reasonably support and prices for fencing, hay etc. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you may be able to run up to 7 head per acre depending on weather and the amount of forage they will have, plus in your part of the country they will need winter feeding and shelter.

Actually, if you want to do some studying about Intensively Managed Grazing, you might be able to double that figure or more -- in time. The best thing to do is to start small and learn as you grow.
