How dark should carniolans be?

    I picked up some carni nucs, and I'm surprised by their bright colouration. The queens are slightly darker than my italians.
    The drones are definately darker. But the workers are basically the same. There is variation within each nuc- from slightly darker to slightly ligher than my italians.
    When I read "black" does that just mean "blacker" than regular bees?

    Thanks so much Al for the pics. Yeah that's basically what I have. For some reason I was expecting something closer to black flies than what I have. They are beautiful.
    Your pics are amazing. Are you using a macro lens?
