    There is a layer around the nut that gets squishy. This is very strong and could blind a person if it gets into your eyes. At least that's what I was told in College. Some students were playing catch with them and another got the juice in their eyes. The plant teacher said that it needs to be flushed out immediately...to prevent blindness
