Hello! Next year my family will be moving to Georgia, probably somewhere within an hour radius of Atlanta. I’m a bit unfamiliar with the area and have been researching quite a bit. I was wondering if anyone could give recommendations on towns that would be fitting to the lifestyle. We have school aged children so having a decent school system matters. Our budget would be $350,000 for a home on 3+ acres. Again, I’m just researching potential locations within an hour radius of Atlanta.

Atlanta traffic is horrible. Is there an area of Atlanta you would need to commute to daily?

There's some really bad areas in metro atl. Trailer parks where the trailers have no windows and the occupants are fine with that.

Paulding County seemed nice but pricey for me and I don't know how they are as far as ordinances, codes and what not. I only lived in the area for 6 months at most. Kennesaw(a city) has a law that each house must have a gun which I thought was cool but other than that, I didn't care for the area. Then I ended up in Mississippi and Georgia didn't seem half bad. MS people were great. There just wasn't much of anything going on.

But then there's pockets of good, bad and uglyo_O everywhere.

Heck, there's one city metro alt that area, starts with an A, that spans three counties. The native GA people were ok but it seems like a whole lot of people from around the country went there to get rich quick due to the Olympics having been held there. Some real doozies as far as business owners I encountered.

I have lived in DeKalb 1977-79, Cherokee 1981-96, Bartow 1996-2013 and Murray County2018 til now. Cherokee up 575 and Alpharetta North (costly) up 400 are nice

The bypass around Atlanta at 2pm in the afternoon makes the Dan Ryan in Chicago feel like my driveway. I couldn't count the lanes because I couldn't see the road but from the rows of cars I believe it was 8. 83mph on cruise control and I was being passed by school buses. Any vehicle that broke down in that meant almost certain death for the occupants. Merging traffic looked like a line of soup cans going into a trash compactor.

I live North of Atlanta in rural Bartow County. Lots of rural land here and NE of Atlanta. I seldom have to go into Atlanta so traffic is of little concern to me.

Here's a site referred by Cabin Fever, a long time member that you may want to refer to before you buy if you are planning on gardening. It's from the National Soil Conservation Service and shows the makeup of local soil across the country.

Wish I had known of this before I bought. I landed in an area of clay....
