Hey,

If anybody out there homesteads in altitudes between 6000-10,000 feet, i'd like to know about how to raise/butcher livestock at those altitudes. What are the best animals to raise in these zones, and how many at a time can your homesteads handle? Any advice would be great.

Also a bit curious about high altitude beekeeping if anyone has info about that.

I live at about 6000 feet. They raise cattle here. Cool weather grasses and alfalfa. Only 2 cuttings and water is an important factor. Animals per acre depends on that.

Cows, goats, yaks, sheep, horses, Llamas. The butchering process is the same as at lower altitudes. The hard part is churning the Yak cream into butter.

We are at 6700 raise pigs goats equine chickens and turkeys. Just be very careful with Cornish cross chickens they do not like high altitude
