I have a couple of chickens, I noticed they were losing their feathers and thought "molting"...but when they were up on the roost I noticed that they had a beige cocoon-like "thing" stuck to their butt feathers. I grabbed one of them and turned her over and it's a hard, crusty shell-like and it's at the end of the quill where the feather grows out of them.

About every feather on their butt and towards their stomach is covered with this hard shell-like thingy and the quill is shriveled down to nothing.

What the heck is this that's "eating" their feathers? I've never seen this in all my years, but I'm no pro.

I need help as this, I'm sure, is not normal. Never seen it before.

    Thanks

No, lice are breed specific. People get people lice, chickens get chicken lice, etc....
