We are from a small community at the edge of the Blue Ridge Mts, both grew up country farm folk in upstate NY. Now after raising our family and 20+ years in our present home, we have the opportunity to start over building a new home for ourselves. We are buying almost 3 acres on a ridge top that we rented years ago. Our son was born in the old shack of a house that's still there.... A hand dug well with good water and septic tank already there. Working and planning on building something as cheap and efficient as possible, possibly totally off grid. Already have chickens and turkeys, a deer a plenty in the apple orchard next door. Ground grew some good stuff before.
Looking forward to sharing the experience and asking a few dumb questions before its over.

Welcome to here! Looking forward to sharing your homesteading adventures.

Please, never be bashful about asking questions. Chances are there are others out there wondering about the same thing. But, don't be surprised if the thread takes on a life of its own. Conversations drift and meander but it's ok. Enjoy it!

Well here we are a few months later....downsizing and moving 25 years of stuff is getting the best of us. We acquired a large 5th wheel for a home, a couple storage sheds packed to the hilt. Got tired of waiting on others to do some excavating so bought a backhoe....
