Have any of you folks used used hearing protection like "Woodland Whisper" or "Ultra Ear ITC"? These device are supposed to let you hear better but when a loud noise like a gun goes off, it protects your ear from the loud noise. I would hate to have a gun blast magnified! My left ear has been damaged from gunfire and I would like to keep the other ear in fair condition but I don't plan to quit shooting.

Thanks, ------ Philbee

My BIL uses them and likes them, but, I tried some of those "hearing aid type" game ears a while back and didn't like them.
Didn't have to buy them, just tried them out.

Also have 30 plus years of noisy factory, shooting, race cars, R & R etc, so was willing to give them a try.

They do "cut out" when you shoot, but I found that they also increased background noise and was difficult to tell where the sounds were coming from.

I would guess they have improved since then, but I prefer to just to "used what I have left".

i don't know about them for use hunting but , a lot of guys at the gun club my dad belongs to use them at the range , most of them are retired from thier factory jobs as machinists and couldn't hear with out them or some type of hearing aid but don't want to damage the little hearing they have left either.

I bought a game ear but I only bought one. That made it impossible to triangulate sounds when I was hunting.

Then I tried muffs but I was constantly hitting them on branches and they magnified the sound.

Thank you all for the information. Last Jan. 6, I shot my friends Mini 14. I rested myself on the tailgate of my P.U. that was in the upright possition. I was using earplugs from work, the kind that has the string connectin the two earplugs. I have used that type of earplug before and they have been OK. The noise from that Little Ruger went toward the cab of the truck and came back and I could feel the pain in my left ear. My friend wanted to shoot that gun in the same way that I did but I told him not to do it and why. I hope that bit of information will help anyone who reads this. I have not been able to hear well out of the ear since that day. ---- Philbee
