I read about orach in a gardening book. Does it taste/grow like chard or spinach or lettuce or collards or mustard or...? I like multi-coloured salad components, and I have lots of rainbow chard and different lettuces (letti?) How does orach compare?

Snoozy, it's been several years so I am stretching my memory here but..... it doesn't taste like chard. I seem to recall that it has a mild taste. I know that's not much help. It did go well in a mixed salad. Never tried it cooked, but always meant to do that. Hope this helps a little.

I grew orach last year....it does have a mild taste, somewhere in between lettuce and spinach, and leaf texture is more like lettuce. I used it in mixed greens salads and also in place of lettuce on sandwiches. If I recall correctly, its nutrient value is also somewhere in between lettuce and spinach.
