It can take months for the hormones to subside- especially when the dog has been neutered after maturity. I think you are OK with not having to worry about pregnancy- I think the most I have heard of a neutered dog impregnanting a ***** was 6-8 weeks.

My co-worker has a neutered cat (neutered pre-maturity) who has, ahem, girlfriends of the blanket persuasion.

Like my bengal, Tinman, altered at six months, yet he has a little stuffed leopard that is *his*?

Anywho, about the dogs; I would wonder if he's cryptoric, too; is the vet sure he removed two testicles? I have heard of neutered males impregnating females, but usually only within a couple weeks of the procedure.

It's not unusual for a neutered male dog to breed a female, particularly if he was neutered as an adult. After all this time it's quite unlikely that he can impregnate her. Your best bet, if you don't want pups, is to spay her. If there is no heat cycle, there won't be any possible slip ups with a "traveling sales-dog" either! :)

Nope, hadn't heard of it ('til now, *gasp*), but Ira (who was neutered over 1 1/2 years ago) has made a few attempts to mount Mink (who is "coming of age"). They're not ever alone together because Mink is crated whenever I'm not right there, and I wouldn't be worried about a pregnancy considering that he's been fixed a pretty long time, but now that I know that they can get locked anyway, I'll watch them even closer. It'd be the last straw in this household full of running animals!

I'm glad you posted this... Are they both ok after their adventure in sexland? (Oh yeah, and so much for "fixed animals have no sex drive" - learn something new every day, huh?!)

unless the operation was bothed up leaving live sperm producing testicle parts inside the male dog, I can't see any way the female could become pregnant. The 'drive' remains after, and even 'tieing' can happen, though I might be suspicious.

i marked the calendar just in case--meanwhile they are going at it like crazy. i am not worried about traveling dogs my dogs are in a fenced in yard when i am home and in a kennel when i am not---i dont think max would let another dog near his girlfriend. i always thought once they were fixed they had no desire, i guess you are never too old to learn things lol

Yep, seen it with 2 of my own dogs. Male had been neutered at age 1, and he was at least 6 years old when my hussy, in-heat female enticed him. I had thought it no big deal to leave them together, he had never shown an interest in previous heat cycles. The female also had never had pups before (and she did not from this safe-sex breeding either)
