My grandson, Cole, age 2 1/2, is being seen by an orthopedist on Monday. He's had an intermittant limp, and my son took him to the ER yesterday. They have ruled out (they think) 'septic hip' and are looking further.

Prayers, please. I'm trying not to worry, but it's difficult.

can they somehow make it to a Shriners Hospital? Even if it is a 4-5 hour drive, it might be worth it. They have found things in our children that no one else has been able to diagnose. Thier treatment is all free to clients, supported by the Shriners clubs and fund raisers. My children have had major surgeries there and have never been *hurt* except for post op pain which has always been readily treated and well medicated.

Son is in the Navy, and they are stationed in San Diego. If the orthopedist doesn't get really pro-active, I'm going to suggest a second opinion. I'll do a search for Shriners.

    THANKS!!

Make Balboa refer him to Children's Hospital. It can be done.

My DH is retired from the Navy, and use to work at Children's in SD. Balboa has an excellent ortho department, but mostly they deal with adults. Chances are the doctors at Balboa will refer him to Children's anyway.

    Good Luck

so what did they find out?

I think the closest Shriners Hospital to San Diego is Los Angeles. 2 of our children have had surgery there. It went great!
