We let the goats out this afternoon to forage on the abundant weeds around the property. Not much worry about predators anymore (the LGDs are very protective of all their wards), and the girls like their outside time.
Well, we needed to run some errands and decided to get dinner out, so it was after 8:00 this evening before we got home. Goats were all standing around in their pen, so I closed the gate and did a quick head count. Uh-oh... Susie was missing. Looked around the pen, nowhere to be found. So up to see if Susie was hanging around the buck pen. On the way, DW noticed one of the plum trees we had planted in April was leaning way over, the bark totally gone from the bottom half of the trunk, and the fencing that had been around it was gone. DW said "Susie is wrapped up in it somewhere". Yep. She was so tangled her head was trapped against her shoulder (horns really had it pulled in tight), she was crying pitifully, and while DW tried to comfort her, I ran to the barn for some wire cutters. Finally we got her cut free and back in her pen, gave her some grain, but she was mostly just standing around. I hope the stress wasn't too much for her system to take.
I honestly never thought they would be that determined to get through a fence to a fruit tree, when there's so much other stuff to eat.:hair
