Key concepts: GM crops, Genetic modification and Infertiliy

Genetically Modified crops have risen to the level of nine percent of world crops, warned the Worldwatch Institute today (www.WorldWatch.org).

Tensions are rising over the GM foods issue as consumers become increasingly educated about the sharp increases in infertility resulting from the consumption of GM foods.

A popular book, Genetic Roulette by Jeffrey Smith, is also raising literacy about genetically modified foods and the threats they pose to sustainable life on our planet.

It's more than just a health threat, of course: GM foods also pose a threat to the environment, polluting the fertile soils of the world with unnatural genetic material that may have unknown long-term consequences. Cross-pollination with non-GM crops, monoculture practices and the liberal use of chemical pesticides alongside GM crops are just a few of the serious threats to sustainable life on Earth posed by food scientists playing God with seeds.

"Activists are increasingly suggesting that the infertility side effects of GM foods are not coincidental and are, instead, part of a genocidal plan by powerful elitists who want the human population to shrink by 80 percent and are willing to destroy human fertility in order to accomplish it. "Let 'em eat their way to population control!"

Talk about brainless stupidity! Anyone who believes this kind of junk is an idiot! I'm going to go out and buy stock in aluminum companies because the prices will skyrocket from all the tin-foil hats you're making.

I won't go so far as to worry about the infertility thing and I am not an elitist, but I do think we are waaay too crowded, but besides all that..
I am in a low level freak about GMO stuff.
Only because it threatens plant diversity, biological pollution and the purity of seeds.
"Uncertain Peril" by Claire hope Cummings is a great read! I never knew how close we have come to having it be illegal to gather seeds from your own garden and plant them... I think it was 2 votes!!
And there are a lot of great documentaries out there as well.. you can catch them on the DOC channel, some of the strange channels in the high numbers that come from the colleges etc...
I have them DVRed. They freak me out.
Terminator seeds, gene splicing, Roundup Ready, Monsanto, the lawsuits, wind blown cross pollination.
<<<shudders>>>>>
And that fact that they are only policed by themselves...
oh ack!

I agree with you LOL.

I am vehemently against GMO's but I don't for one minute believe they are part of a plan to reduce the human population. They exist because certain companies are greedy for profit.

I hate GMO's because they threaten to limit the species to a few "laboratory" specimens, while contaminating (destroying) the natural variations of plant species.

We've already seen many examples of the GMO's escaping the experimental area's and cross pollinating with natural plants.

We've seen that using pesticides can have unintended consequences.

We've learned that using chemical fertilizers depletes the soil, making it unfit to grow crops unless the chemicals are used each and every year.

Back in the 60's there was a huge movement to go back to natural ways of growing organic. The industries answer to that movement was to design GMO's that invade the natural plants and destroy them, thus taking away the individual rights to grow organic. That doesn't even take into account that now we can' use the word organic, we have to find a new word with the same meaning because TPTB have made it illegal for us to use the organic word unless we pay them to "inspect" our place and get their permission.

The only way to be sure your heirloom seeds reproduce heirlooms instead of being contaminated with GMO junk is to grow your seed plants in a closed environment with a closed germination process. Otherwise you may get a knock on the door some day and discover you are being sued for harvesting your own seeds instead of buying GMO carp (along with their pesticides, fertilizers, etc.) every year.

I often wonder about why TPTB have seed storage where they keep pure seeds. Are they that scared of GMO's themselves? Do they know they are destroying the plants so they are prepared to restock the planet after the GMO's have burned themselves out and are no longer viable?
