Dh was at a cooking oil plant today. He asked how they were doing. He was told that they are barely hanging on. Typical production used to be 3000 bottles a day, today the are processing 800.

Just an FYI.

Interesting.

We don't use a lot of oil in cooking, but I suppose now would be a good time to get more with newer exp. dates.

I think a lot of people are not eating out as much. We ate at Taco Bell for the first time in several yrs. the other day. I was surprised at how small the portions have gotten and how much higher the prices were. We probably won't ever do that again.

There you have it. Restaurant use. We've lost several in Gainesville lately and I expect to see a bunch more go before things get any better.

When it's costing twenty bucks or more to feed a family of four at McDonald's then a lot of folks are going to stop eating out.

We were just in Gainesville last Friday night and heard people talking about restaurant closings...... while we waited in line for 30 minutes to get inside a restaurant. The restaurant we were waiting to get in was the 3rd we had tried that night. The other 2 had longer waits to get a table.

What's up with that? are the ones that are closing bad restaurants or were the lines just long because people were celebrating FSU's win?

I have 2 friend who work at local restaurants. For them, the Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday afternoons, are still very busy, although down somewhat, perhaps 10-20% in their estimations. Families are still going out, and people are still dating. However, their weekday business lunch traffic, which is the majority of their business, is down around 40%, again in their estimation.

Well, that makes sense. There did seem to be even more restaurants in Gainesville than a year ago..... was really surprised that the Waffle House on 16th was closed. I guess the mall area restaurants killed them!

I like Gainesville. It's a nice place from what I have seen.

We (a family of six) eats at McD's for about $21. Of course, one kid just eats what some of the others have, and all the kids and DW eat off the Dollar Menu.

If we go to our local Chinese place it runs $50 with tax and tip. Of course, we then have enough leftovers for another lunch or two.

We are definitely eating out less since we have finally discovered we can eat a far superior meal at home for half the price.

As you eat at home, more and more, you will find that the difference between eating out and eating in is far more than 50%.

Our eating 'in' uses a great deal of variation in our menu, and never exceeds 10% of what eating out would cost.

Yep, eating in is the best bargain out there.

Tonight we are having Chinese, hubby is making his wontons right now, the egg drop soup will be ready and he makes the best dough-nuts...now don't ask me why they are Chinese, just that my 8 year old likes them and it was his "Friday" meal..... we are having stir-fry as well and hubby made some fortune cookies today with "Get out of chores for one day" fortunes.

Hubby prints up menus for us and he (8 year old) takes Momma out to dinner complete with waiter and "wine" (Sparkling apple juice).

Always taste better in my opinion too.
