Does anyone have a truly frugal hot chocolate recipe? I saw the couple of 'em on Hillbilly Housewife, but I don't have all of the ingredients--I have goat's milk (yeah, Meyenberger's powder...not too bad), cocoa and sugar. :help:

I don't know how frugal it is, I consider food a good investment so I stopped buying "cheap" food years ago. Here is the recipe we've been using and everyone likes it. When our goats are back in milk I am sure it would be wonderful with goat milk. Right now we are making it with milk from a local cow dairy farm. I use organic fair traded coco and organic evaporated cane juice (I haven't tried honey yet). Even using better ingredients it is still a cheap after dinner snack, plus it is our daily intake of a dark coco ;).

In a sauce pan on medium heat mix & heat: 1/4 cup of cocoa, 2 TBSP sugar, 3 cups milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla, sprinkle cinnamon.

Are you looking to make up a mix or just a pot for enjoying now? If you are just wanting to enjoy now, prepare milk as you normally do (if it's powdered), mix 1/2 c sugar, 1/4 c of cocoa powder and a dash of salt in a saucepan, mix in 1/3 cup or so of hot water and cook over med. heat until it boils then add in 4 cups of milk and a tsp of vanilla, heat to desired temperature. Hope this helps!
