There is a smallish group of audiobooks that can be downloaded free on Amazon. I haven't looked through all of them but it seems like a mixed bag.

Also, Amazon has a 30 day free offer for "audible audiobooks". During that 30 days you can download two books from their audiobook store. I did sign up for that and have my two books. This is a great opportunity to grab a couple of new best sellers. If you don't want to continue, just be sure to cancel it before your 30 days is up so that you're not charged.

Here's a site with a LOT of books to dl. They are free but you are asked if you like the book to send in a few bucks with at least 75% IIRC going directly to the author.

There are some VERY well written and read books there. And of course some are stinkers.

Go here. Click 'find a library' and enter in what it takes to get to your area.. zipcode etc..

I have NEVER paid for an audiobook. EVER.
Why would I if I can get them for free from my library?

I am audio only.
I never 'read' anymore.
I feel like I am wasting time.
So.. I knit and listen or garden or do dishes or cook etc..
All the while a nice person is reading scary carp to me.
I feel the same way. It's makes work less tedious and I feel more productive. But I still try to read when I can find time. I've noticed that when I go back and read the print version of an audiobook that I missed alot.
