I know we've talked about this in other threads throughout the past years, but some may not have seen it, or others haven't tried it in awhile.

I just checked Colorado where I use to live. Found a bit over $200 to claim, my name, etc. Found some to claim under ex-s name, and then found some to tell my brother about, 4 under his name, totalling about $3000...

    http://www.colorado.gov/treasury/gcp/index.html

    This is the Colorado page...

Most all state treasureries have the same feature, though it maybe under another name.

Anywhere YOU, your parents, etc have lived - there may be some money.

I know I have in the past received about $200 from a savings bond I bought in elementary school in Fla...

I figure the weather has you stuck in the house anyway, so why not see if there is money out there for yourself.

    Angie

PS: Via the states there is no charge...

Good for you Angie! That's $200 more than you had. That's great news.

We got a nice chunck from a state we live in previously. It was money due us from the closing on the sale of our house there. At the time it just slipped through the cracks.

Country Lady - go check again.

I've done Colorado two other times, and this one was not there in previous years.

So about once a year or more is good for checking the states

So-----is this more apt to be for people who lived previously in OTHER states?

If a person has lived in the same state all of their life, it would be more unlikely to FIND anything?

Is there any possibility of finding anything in a state you've never lived in?

I guess I live a rather boring life, seeing that my I have moved so seldom.

If the name is your name, or you think it might be you, go ahead and do the claim form...

I just found over $100 in Florida in a place I use to live. Under my maiden name, but - might be me.

How about that: I just found some from when I live in KY back in 1986; the state site is useless and doesn't give the amount, but I imagine it's my usual $3 that I tend to leave in checking accounts just because banks make it so hard to close one. But when I get back to the States I'll see about following it up...have to mail a request for a form. Get with the program KY!

I did this and found money for my Mom. I asked her that since she didn't know about it and I found it, would she split it with me? She agreed. It was a 1979 tax refund for a a house in Virginia. $580. So when the check came, she gave me $290, not bad for about 15 minutes worth of work...

My FIL did this for my name a few years back and found $2000 (after state's fee) for me. It seems it was put aside in my name by a company I contracted for, maybe in case they owed state tax on me or as payment to me for education expenses I didn't claim. I took it and declared it as self-employed income- paid my fed tax etc- since it would've been such income had it come straight from that company years back.

    So I AM A BELIEVER!
