To use you cut off the stem end of the ear. A screw-type bit (provided) goes in a drill and screws into the end of the cob. Ear is first put through the tube to the bottom where brushes removed the leaves and silk. The cleaned ear in then put back and forth in the top tube (which has stainless steel brushes) removing the kernels from the cob. To take the cob off the drill just hold and reverse the drill. Reportedly takes about ten seconds per ear.
