A "flag case" - thats the first I've heard or seen of them. Any history/story behind the flag case?

Flags are drapped over the Coffins of deseased servicemen (even discharged ones). The flags are folded by the honor guard and presented to his nearest kin. The cases are used to display/store these flags as they should never be flown again.
