First time growing onions

    I see the red of the onion shoing through the dirt so I pulled it out there kinda small. How long in the growing period. I grew them from sets. Like I said I love to garden just am new at it. Thanks for the help I love this forum.

    Don't know where you are at but the middle and upper part of the country still have at least 6 weeks to go before thinking of harvesting mature bulbs. About now is when one normally begins pulling every other one for use as large scallions.

    Also, don't worry about them shoving up through the dirt. They are supposed to do that, especially in heavy soil. And don't cover them back up, either! When the tops finally flop over and begin to die, then you'll know that they are as big as they are going to get.
