Years ago I stopped growing potatoes as my main starch crop and used the dirt for more expensive crops because it wasn't worth it. I would stock up on potatoes when they were put on a loss leader sale for Thanksgiving. For years they would go in sale 10# for $0.99. This year they were 10# for $5.00

Anyone else seeing this kind of jump? Is it just my little town grocery store or just potatoes?

Well, I've never seen them so expensive or so few on hand at my local store.

I thought potatoes were going to be in short supply this year.

$5.89 per pound for apples here in my little Montana town the other day.
