After fretting last night, I went to bed around midnight. I usually take the phone and the computer mouse (I have teenagers who have tried to be slick...) in my room, too. About 4:00am, the phone rang. I shot up and answered it--it was my neighbor across the street. She was hollering something about the neighbor's yard being on fire (we all live close enough to each other, about 200-300 feet). I ran out front inappropriately dressed  and thought it was the house next to me (yeah, my daughter brought my pants out to me LOL!). I got everyone up and out the door when I looked in the OTHER neighbor's yard and there it was--a 200 square foot fire in the wooded area that was spreading at a pretty good clip away from our house but about 600 feet away. I called 911 and sent my kids back in the house as the fire was too far from our house to be dangerous. Took the fire department about 15 minutes to show up, and when they did it turned out they had a surprise--three more fires in the wooded areas within four blocks of each other

From talking to my kids, another rugrat in the hood has been talking about setting "community fires" (yes, they told the fire chief and the local Barneys). Sets a few fires far apart, so then the neighbors all come out of their houses to check it out. Do this a few times, then set a big one in the woods and rob people's homes while they are out at the fire...

Is it any wonder I am not going to be too sad to be leaving this area? Fire settings, gang activities (yeah, someone moved the Crips here... ), drugs (meth and the other usual stuff), shootings...you'd swear we were the 'burbs or the city!

ruby jane, this is totally off the subject of the fires, and I apologize in advance for thread drift - but I just have to address your first line.

Before I took the phone or computer mouse with me to my bedroom one more time, I'd address the REAL issue in my house. Why can't you trust the teenagers with the phone and the mouse? If I couldn't trust my teens, I'd never have gotten any sleep!
LOL! It's okay--we only have one phone in the house, so I take it in my room in case of emergency (case in point would have been last night or even Friday night ...oh, that's gonna be way OT  lol ). I trust my kids as far as I can throw 'em, but I guess maybe it's a preventative measure  taking the mouse to my room (wireless).

Ill tell you why we cant trust our kids. Kids need their back side warmed regularly to creat disapline, but if you do that the state will take them away, and put you in jail.

the state is creating kids with no disapline

I don't see why she shouldn't take the mouse with her. Even the best kids will try to get away with something, and you don't want to be playing games with them, getting up in the middle of the night to see if they are watching porn on the computer. Of course, a smart one will simply buy his own mouse and keep it hidden in HIS room, but at least he will know that it's wrong.

Isn't that the truth!!!!

I was in a situation with my daughters 10 years ago. I ended up under intestigation becuz I choose to disapline them when they would completily and totally get out of hand. When the worker asked me why, I explained that they would respect their elders and not become "gangbangers"! And the only thing she cared about was the word "gangbangers". Regardless to say the girls were taken away and adopted out ( oh and don't get me started on that one!) and I was allowed to see them once a week for an hour while working full time for the Post Office (from which they got me fired from & then told the judge I could not hold a job without explain to him that they keep calling my shift boss everyday). So on one of my visits, the worker (who love to try and use my visit hour for discussions so i could not visit) walks up to me and says, " You have a problem with your oldest daughter. She threw a rock thru the pastors back window and hit her foster sitster."
I say really! But this will wait until MY ONE HOUR VISIT WITH MY KIDS IS DONE. My oldest had heard they worker and explain what happened. The foster sisiter promised to played with her after church, but she the foster girl was too busy sitting in the car trying to kiss the pastor's son. My daughter got mad after about 15 minutes of foster sister ignoring her, picked up the rock and threw in thru the window. The Foster sister had broken a promise in her eyes. An my daughter was taught the "we" keep our promised!

When the visit was over, the worker came back in and stated that she heard everything that my daughter said. And that she and the Foster/adopted mom had decided that for punishment that they would take daughter's $14 a week allowance away to pay for the window. When I ask what she gets an allowence for, it was told it was for keeping her shoes and back pack in her room. The child is 7 years old for goodness sake. No wonder my daughter didn't want to come HOME!!!!! They was paying her!! The worker wanted to know what "I" was going to do about the situation?

"I" told her that is was not my problem since they decided to remove the girls because "I" was displining them. That they were never giving them back so I was no longer in charge of teaching them to respect they elders even if the "elder" was only 16 at the time. Regardless to say it was not taken well!!

So YES the state creating kids with no respect!!!! :flame:
