Selecting raw wool
In general, wools finer than 25 microns can be used for garments, while coarser grades that are more durable and less prone to pilling are suggested for outerwear or rugs.

Some sheep breeds to try

* California Variegated Mutant (CVM) 25-21 microns, staple length 3-4.5"
* Columbia 31-24 microns, staple length 3.5-5"
* Corriedale 33-26 microns, staple length 3-5"
* Gotland 32-28 microns, staple length 3-5"
* Merino 28-18 microns, staple length 2.5-5"
* Polworth 26-21 microns, staple length 4-5.5"
* Targhee 27-22 microns, staple length 3-4.5"
