I'd like to start feeding root crops to milk cows. I find tons or articles about growing root crops for this purpose. Nearly everything says to chop or grind up the roots. The frustrating part is they don't say how!
I've been doing searches for what device to make or buy to accomplish this and I can't find anything except references to a tub grinder. When I search for tub grinder I keep getting stuff about grinding tree stumps
Anyone do this and can point me in the right direction? I really cannot see me cutting roots on a tree stump with a machete. When I was younger absolutely.....now, nooooo.

The only wood chipper I've ever owned would be hurling the pulp into the next county. It blew the chips through so forcefully that it dug a hole in the dirt and scattered my chips so badly that it was useless.
Suggestions on a brand?

Do you like in a place where it freezes? I wonder if keeping them outside when they turn mushy, but before they go bad, would be a way to pre-soften them up.

You definitely don't want to feed whole. Oregon Forage & Grassland Council has a webinar series called Lunch with Forages. A year or so ago they had one with a woman rancher who let her cattle forage on turnips and a number of them choked and died. A hard lesson.

Txgypsy did you ever figure something out?

I was looking for a shredder that could chop up sorghum and broom corn stocks. I have a hammer mill but the sorghum stalks just wind around insides and cutting up the stalks with clippers take forever. Never thought of doing root crops but that would be nice like pumpkins and sugar beets.

Does anyone know if any of the shredders work on cardboard?
