What is your favorite quote(s) and what does it mean to you? We had a discussion --that lead to quotes and what it meant to them... I was amazed, that the same quote meant so many different things, to different people... So, I thought it might be fun to hear from my favorite group... Let us hear it!!!

"To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves."
Mahatma Ghandi

This is one of my favorites.
Besides the obvious and literal meaning it is a reminder of human fraility and how tied we are to the simplest act of nature for our very existence... the sprouting of a seed.
For if the seeds were to no longer sprout, grow and produce, we would cease to exist.

i have too one is super long.
the other is:
Before you were conceived I wanted you
Before you were born I loved you
Before you were here an hour I would die for you
This is the miracle of life. - maureen hawkins

it reminds me of how much i love my kids and how precious love and life is... i also use it to explain to my kids the depth and breadth of my love for them when they give me the you dont love me as much as (insert sibling)
Chickenista, that is one of my favorite also... Queen Bee
I've been saving meaningful,to me, quotes since I was a teen. It's ineresting to re-read them & see where my mind has been and how it's evolved to today.

I think peoples tag lines reflect where they are....
"There's nothing wrong with having nothing to say, unless you insist on saying it."

I don't know if it qualifies as a quote, because I can't remember where I read it. I love it though.
I am a fan of IndyCar racing, especially at the Indianapolis 500.

In fact, race day at Indy for the 500 is, without reservation, my favorite day of the year.

Here is one of my all time favorite quotes, said by legendary 1960's era Indy 500 driver Eddie Sachs:

"I think of Indianapolis every day of the year, every
hour of the day, and when I sleep, too. Everything I
ever wanted in my life, I found inside the walls of
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway."
- Eddie Sachs

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up for me too.

"Bloom where you've been planted" -- anonymous

Look for the good in every situation.
a teacher asked my grand daughters class what were some sayings in there households ,, my grand daughter said that her papa ( grandpa ) always says
shi* happens ,,, and ,, cat by the as* on a down hill drag .. the shi* . is changed to crap and the as* is changed to tail when little ears are a round
My favorite quote is from Plato: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."

The meaning is obvious.
One of my favorites is "make sure the words you speak today are sweet and tender for you may have to eat them tomorrow."
Well, my sigline of course, and also this one by Helen Keller:

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart"
"In the dark night of the soul, bright flows the river of God."

It's in the book, "Bright Flows The River" by Taylor Caldwell but I don't know if she came up with it or if it came from somewhere else.

To me it means that no matter what life throws at you and how dark things may seem, God is always there.
My favorite is an old New England maxim:
Use it up, Wear it out,
Make it do, Or do without

I'm a very frugal, old fashioned person, so I try to live by this motto. Amazing what a person can come up with instead of just running to the store for something!
I like this one "no one can make you feel inferior but yourself." Eleanor Roosevelt.

This quote reminds me that self confidence is important and that if someone is doing something to me that makes me feel less or think less of myself it is only because I am allowing it to happen.
It’s what you learn after you already know everything that really matters
Everything is exactly as it should be or it wouldn't."
My quote. :)
I say it all the time because its down right true.

I came up with it after hearing to often from people, 'This isn't what I want.' and they do nothing about it.
Well if that's not what you want you would do something about it so it must be what you want!
So I guess everything is exactly as it should be or it wouldnt. :)
To the world you might be one person,
but to one person,
you just might be the world.

"Just because you're outnumbered doesn't mean you're wrong."

I got that in a greeting card from a BOY in Sophomore year of high school! I was in an Advanced Lit class with Seniors, and I was vocal about not buying into all the tried-n-true "explainations" of why Homer wrote this or that in such-n-such a way, etc. Everyone in the class seemed so eager to just lap up whatever the teacher put in front of them; I was frustrated every single day. One the last day, this boy I'd never noticed gave me this card: It had a picture on the front of a cartoon Cow teaching a class of Cow students, but one student was a Horse! The teacher said, "All in favor, say 'Moo', all opposed, say, 'Neigh'! Then, on the inside, it said "Just because you're outnumbered doesn't mean you're wrong!". I've been so touched by that tiny bit of compassion that I use it as my motto to this day; 20 years later.
