In Ohio this is one of the concepts that is promoted by the Ohio Ecoogical Food and Farm Association.

I know that I have seen announcements for "meetings" that were for chefs and local producers to network. This way the chefs could find out what produce/products were available in their area.

That concept is how I got back into farming. In 06 I had an abundance of Tomatoes so my kids were selling them to earn money. A local coffee shop bought us out every week. Now we sell to them, a catering company that has the contract for the cafeteria at the Virginia State Capital and two other prominant establishments in the Richmond VA area. We also sell to a local organic grocery store. We have talked about joining forces with an old military buddy of mine and opening a cafe where he cooks only what I grow. I read an article a few years ago about a resturant in NYC that does just that. They grow all their produce on the old Rockefeller Farm.
