I've just picked a nice bucketful of "Outback/Sideways" apples for sauce making.
The unknown variety tree is rooted on the other side of our back fence (out back), where it toppled over the fence onto our side about four years ago. The adjacent property owner probably hasn't seen it in 40 years.
It has since grown prosperously in its sideways situation, offering us scrumptious apples every fall, if we care to help ourselves.
The tree is likely about 100 years old. There are remnants of orchard on that and another adjacent property. So it could be a named variety. Anyone care to take a guess at its identity? If not, it will forever be known as the Outback Apple Tree!
