Hi, I am soon to install an electric fence along my existing fence to help keep predators out and my guard dogs in. I'm going to have a total wire length of 1.5 miles and my fence charger is an ac charger rated at 25 miles with 1 joule output. Will I be able to use 17 ga steel wire or do I need to use 14ga? I haven't found the 14 ga in any stores nearby. Thanks for any advise.

Either gauge is acceptable for a permanent fence. If you are going to have larger animals, I'd go w/ the 14ga, like bulls, full grown cattle etc. I would consider going w/ a stronger charger, 3 Joules is the minimum for most predators and containment IMO.
