We lost our barn during that big storm just before Christmas.
So I made double tarped shelters to make due till we could build.
Have not been able to rebuild due to rain.
It's going in the teens this evening.
I have everyone bedded down on a thick layer of straw
with grass hay on top. But I'm worried about ears.
Do ears freeze easily? They are calling for temps in the
20's and teens. I wish I could bring them inside.

My nubians have been in -15 temps with no ill effect as long as there out of the wind.

Thank you, I have been so worried I was about to go snuggle down
with them out there. All tarps are doubled and are top and 3 sides
with tarps on runs to block winds. Hopefully they'll be warm enough.
There are 4 to 6 in each area so they have snuggling buddies.
    Thank you for responding.

I think you've done a great job with the alternative shelters! Their ears will be fine. I'm not sure what kind you have..but I am quite sure that they will take the cold in stride. You have snuggle buddies and great bedding..go have a cup of tea Mom..the children are tucked in nicely!

We have gotten to -30 with no ill effetcs on adults. As long as they are dry and out of the wind they will be fine.

I doubt it would be any warmer inside an unheated barn than inside a tarped shelter. Your goats will be fine as long as they are out of the wind.

Thank you all, they did fine,
I'm just a wory wort
The winds are something. Bringing our wind chill factors
close to 0. I love it, better than the near 3 months of rain
we've had. At least now they can come out in the sunshine,
even if it is colder than a well diggers bum. :)
