I may be buying a 51 Chevy 3/4 ton truck. Waiting on the guys call right now. Truck is currently registered in NY and was inspected until recently. Owner says it should pass inspection with new tires as the old ones are dry rotted. The truck is 200 miles away and it would be much easier for me to drive it home with a back up vehicle, rather than towing it.

I don't want to try and drive it that far on the tires on it. Yet, I don't want to blow money on new tires only to find I need that money for other repairs. I'm thinking the way to go is to buy a set of good mounted tires from the salvage yard to get it home on. I won't know until tomorrow if it's 6 or 5 lug rims. I am wondering if the bolt pattern in the early 1950's is the same as today. Does anybody know?
