What's the best way to dry Thistle to use in flower arrangements? Will it keep the pretty purple flower if dried upside down in a dark room or should I use glycerin? What about the prickers? Will they fall off when dried?

Yes, you can dry them hanging up-side down in a room on the north west side of the house, doesn't have to be dark - just not in direct sunlight. two or three to a bunch. I usually stripped the leaves and what pricklies I could as I picked them. Been a long time since I dried flowers but I do recall that you have to pick them when they are still in a tight bud. If it is even starting to open you will end up with a brown center. Finally! Don't have thistle growing around here or I'd go look at some so I could explain the right stage to pick, better. Hope that helps.

That helped because I picked them all after the flower had opened. Didn't know they still had to be closed. Looks like have to go get more
