    Hi Y'all,

It's Thursday & I'm doing laundry. I always do laundry on
Thursdays. I'm retired & DSW Sharon still works 5 days a week.
So, I do laundry on Thursdays.

But doing laundry, I got thinking, I still wear "Uniforms", two
years after I retired. Not regular uniforms, but the kind you pick.

I have, for years, worn jeans, a black pocket T-shirt. and
work boots. Jeans because they wear tough & they last a long time.
Black pocket T-shirts because I use to smoke & needed a pocket.
Black because I was an auto worker and black doesn't show the oil
stains as bad. I definitely had oil stains. But, not so many anymore.

I even still have a couple new ones on the shelf because I'd buy the
XX-ones ahead when I could find them. I love the relaxed-fit
"Faded Glory" jeans from Walmart. Yeah, I know they aren't made
in the U.S. But, they are Cheaper than Lees or Levis. And those
    aren't made here either.

I'm still wearing my "Uniforms", now, even when I go to town, once in
awhile. I just make sure I have one on without holes.
I change jeans & T-shirt every day. Can't stand putting on dirty
    clothes when I shower.

Do Y'all wear Uniforms, Consciously or Unconsciously?
Or, is it just me being wierd?

well I have never thought of it that way John.
Being I am no longer a productive member of society. Meaning not working away from the homestead. I just grab the first pair of old shorts and shirt that comes to hand. Then wad the hair up and do what-ever comes to mind. Ick. Wonder if the hubby is sick of seeing me like this yet?

Are you ready for a change? Like a different colored T-Shirt? Isn't Black so HOT in the Summer? Probadly not ready though. If you have been wearing the black ones for this long you probadly wouldn't feel "right' in any other color correct? Never know what could happen if the wife sees ya in a blue or red one though! It could either freak her smooth out or she might just jump your bones. Little things seem to work so well sometimes.

    Have a pleasant day!!!!

I wonder what it is about the uniform. I have to wear one while at work. When I am at home doing things around the house I wear my own uniform. When Its honey dews or working on the house it's white carpenter pants and T-shirt. If it's yard work it's an old pair of jeans and a T-shirt. You can tell from a distance what I have planned for my day :) Do you think it has anything to do with our perception of ourselves or is it just habit? Carl

Edited because I need English lessons.

After years of wearing uniforms for different careers, I am now no longer required to wear one.

I missed the predicitability of it.

I now have a casual "uniform" for work and specific clothes for home.

    It works.

LOL, I do the same thing, never thought of it being a uniform, but I grab the first pair of old jeans, and a tee shirt. Hair goes up and out the door I go to feed animals. Since I live in a very small town (350 all farmers) I have never thought about this. We all go to town, well dressed like this. Wonder what the husband would think if I greeted him at a door with a dress on. :) Never know what could happen.

I used to be a mechanic, and the job came with uniforms. After I left the trade, I found myself without enough clothes to go a week.

My fix for this was to buy a bunch of used uniforms from a service, I think shirts were $1 and pants were $2. Until I learned to wear shorts again, it's all I would wear because I was used to them and comfortable.

These days it's cheapo shorts from Wal-Mart and those same $1 shirts. My wife doesn't mind.

Yes I wear uniforms and have for the majority of my life. I was thinking about this very topic about a year ago.

In grade school it was a basketball uniform and a band uniform.

In high school it was a basketball and a band uniform with a Lions Club state band uniform tossed in for a short while as well. Oh, I was also a cheerleader my senior year so wore a uniform for that duty.

Not long after high school Uncle Sam required me to wear one of his uniforms for a couple of years.

After that it was a civilian police uniform for a few years.

Next came "Phillips 66" Philgas uniforms when I hauled LPG for a dealer as a sideline while farming (7 years).

Next was the uniform wearing as a (an?) USPS letter carrier for about 15 years.

Currently as a security officer in the local public library I wear a "Security" shirt as a uniform.

I am figuring on going full time for the county weed department next year--and uniforms will then be furnished to me and done up by a service.

Geez, am I in a rut or what? If there is an after life or another life I wonder what I'll be wearing then?

    It's a secret
Carpenter style jeans (I like the extra pockets)
Black pocket T's (same reasons ex smoker, still work in the auto industry)
Button on suspenders (big belly/no butt, belts don't work, clip ons are useless)
Redwing work boots (bad feet, knees and back. I wear only the best of my feet)

And, btw a black T shirt isn't any hotter than a white one if you're not standing in the sun.

I wear scrubs at the hospital, and very casual stuff at home. I buy T shirts at the thrift store for a buck apiece and in the summer it's shorts and the rest of the year it's sweat pants. I usually cut the sleeves off the T's for summer. I love overalls, too, but find them to be less comfortable than sweats.

Sweetie, if you're working on the homestead you've become a more productive member of society!

This time of year, tank tops and jeans are my uniform. Sometimes, if I want to look all fancy, I'll add a button up shirt over the top of the tank :p

Yep, got the uniform look going here!

    Lee jeans, one particular style.
$5 Hanes T-shirts from Walmart, one of each color.
Walmart shorts, one style, a couple of colors.

In winter, Faded Glory flannel shirts, one style - but several colors.
Also about 3 colors of one style of Hanes sweatshirt.

Even the socks, bras, and undies are uniform.
