i got all my chickens from a lady who didnt want them. (minus my silver laced, i raised those from a day old myself. )

the red ones (Rhode Island Red) and the white one (Leghorn)where easy to figure out. , but she had no idea the breed of the rooster , said it was a silky , but i know hes not .. he MIGHT be mixed , but no idea.

trying to figure this out, as one of his girls is laying on a nice clutch of eggs, due to hatch on the 2nd of july. and i most likely will sell them. but wanna try to be clear as possible on the breed when i do sell them.

hes very large, but is actually pretty docile. like .. i cant hold him, but he doesnt mind me being within a foot of him. he will even come to me when i call for him. ive named him Pepper due to his plumage reminds me of well .. pepper .. hes the only one out of all my chickens that have names.. lol


if you guys have any idea what breed he could be . please let me know.

The red one in the pic is not a rhode island red---looks like a red sex-link which goes by several names. The rooster for sure is mixed.

red sex-link for that red one , ok gotcha thank you. i was looking at BUNCHES of chicken pics and figured she was just a standard rhode island since thats the most common our tractor supply sells . pretty sure my other red one is a rhode though, shes darker in color and more of a solid color. id take a pic , but i try not to disturb her too much since shes laying on eggs.

Rohde island reds are Red---have some black tail feather tips. If they got white in them---they are crossed.

my broody is very much a Rhode island red then. shes got the dark red feathers and the black tips on the tail feathers figured thats what the other red one was as well since she said she got them on the same day from the store , but whoops guess not ... lol the rooster was one of her kids ffa project they decided to keep, they thought it was a hen till he started to crow. so had to get more chickens to accompany him

ill hopefully be able to get a good pic of her once her eggs hatch in a few days... and if they dont hatch , i actually have a few Cornish cross babies in the brooder in the house at the moment i can trick her to get up off the nest with.
