    Passing this on.

Cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketers.

In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing
companies and you will start to receive sales calls on your cell phones.

Call this number from your cell phone (1-888-382-1222).
It is the national Do Not Call list. It blocks your number for 5 years. You must call from your cell phone. It took me just one minute to do.
You may want to distribute this information to your friends and family.

If you research this you will find that the CITA, the group putting together
the wireless 411 service, has said over and over again that the directory
will not be avalible for public use. The list is nowhere near ready,
it's still stuck in Congress. The FCC has laws stating that telemarketing
calls cannot be made to cell phones.

Both urbanlegends.com & snopes.com list this as an urban legend - false. While some phone companies planned to form a 411 of cell phones, several of the companies pulled out of the plan, and there never was a deadline, nor is there a plan to hook up the numbers with telemarketing.

Oh, I'm sorry about this. If I could delete it, I would.
I just posted what came in my email thinking I was doing a good service.
Next time I'll check the sources.

Still not a bad alert; as telemarketers & scammers go, they will surely _try_ to use such a listing if they can gain access to it at all. The pressure brought by individuals caused several phone companies to back out of the listing entirely, so the alert, even if not totally accurate, can be a good thing.

Fortunately, I hate cell phones & do not plan to get one, so doesn't matter to me.

I just answer the 2-3 calls I get on my regular land line & steam at the telemarketers..... ;)
