DE vs. crushed Limestone

    I use the limestone to keep down odors etc. and it's so much cheaper and readily available. Anyone know if it has similar ingredients/properties and some of the same benefits as DE.

    Limestone is just what it says...ground limestone. The chemical composition is calcium carbonate.

    DE is the frustules of diatoms (single celled marine algae). They are made of silicon and are like broken glass or microscopic snowflakes.

    Food grade limestone can be added to feeds as a calcium supplement. DE is used mainly as an insecticide
