I am 59...from the time I was born, I remember my maternal great grandmother living in the upstairs bedroom of my grandparents ( she was bedridden ). Soon after she died, my grandmother discovered an elderly neighbor in similar situation and brought him to the room where he died a few years later. We just knew that is what you do.
When my paternal grandmother became bedridden, she came to live with me until her death in April at the age of 99. Though my mentally handicapped brother lives in a group home, he is home with me one full weekend a month. We are involved with the other men in his group home. I pray my children know, you take care of your own as much as possible...and that "your own" is not always blood related.
