My first try at grinding cornmeal, I used popcorn because I read it makes good cornbread. Well my DH complained about hard bits in the cornbread and something about possibly breaking a tooth. Well, I can't get my grinder to grind any finer. But shouldn't the pieces have softened during cooking? Is this normal for home ground cornmeal? The recipe called for half cornmeal, half flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, oil and milk. It baked for 20 min.

Try making the batter a little soupier and see if that doesn't soften the crunchy bits.

Alternatively you could boil an amount of water equal to the volume of the corn meal the pour it over the meal, mix, then allow to cool. Once it is proceed with your recipe. You'll need to adjust the total liquid.
