The governor’s October 7th declaration read as follows:
“In response to the epidemic of the Ebola virus currently affecting multiple countries in western Africa, and in order to provide the Commissioner of Public Health and other appropriate officials with all authorities necessary to prevent any potential transmission of the Ebola virus within the State of Connecticut, I hereby declare a public health emergency for the State, pursuant to the Connecticut General Statutes Section 19a-131a, for the duration of the epidemic. Specifically, in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes Section 19a-131b, I authorize the Commissioner of Public Health to Order the isolation or quarantine, under conditions prescribed by the Commissioner of Public Health, of any individual or group of individuals whom the Commissioner reasonably believes to have been exposed to, infected with, or otherwise at risk of passing the Ebola virus.”
– Governor Dannel P. Malloy, October 7, 2014
I rather do like your attitude about all this. It's easier to live with for sure. I do hope you're right and I'm wrong.Paranoia will destroy ya.
Doctors have had the power to impose quarantines since before Connecticut became a state. There is really nothing new here.
Mitt Romney did the same thing and the the Right nominated him to run for President.Governor Malloy is a socialist worm. He'd like nothing better than an opportunity to declare martial law. He got his "assault" weapon ban and magazine limit legislation passed, thinking he'd disarm all those "gun nuts". About 90% of the people, including LEOS affected told him to stuff it, they weren't about to give up their guns or magazines.
Imagine Mayor Bloomberg as a Governor and you've got Malloy.
He changed his mind when he found how much opposition he would face as a presidential nominee. He did pass an assault weapons ban in his state. So did Fienstein and many other democrats. I couldn't find anything about a magazine ban or.limit. Probably the reason he lost was he didn't represent republicans let alone conservatives. He was really Obama lite but the lessor of two evils. I never considered him to be the right guy!Mitt Romney did the same thing and the the Right nominated him to run for President.

I give you a post of the day award. If I were sitting outside the U.S. and watching, fully detached from the situation, I would have to come to two possibilities, either the U.S. has a bunch if ignorant idiots running the country and the CDC, or the powers that be want Ebola to spread. Then if I listen to what world business men are saying that the U.S is in hopeless financial condition, Then I read the headline "Liberian President seeking new powers to prevent travel and public meetings", I would guess that the powers that be would want a good excuse to limit the assembling and movement of people so violence from an economic collapse could be managed. Having the ability to declare martial law with out saying so, but call it a health crisis would be more acceptable to the people. Hey, for good measure let them bring in a bunch of sick people from south America to spread even more sickness to add to the crisis. Tell people that you can't get Ebola if some one isn't showing symptoms even though a group headed by a German doctor says you can. Tell them you can only get it if you touch body fluids even though it is now quietly admitted that it can be spread by sneezing and coughing. Then again maybe the first idea is correct, maybe they are all just stupid.
