Coccidiosis prevention in pregnant rabbit

1498 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Danaus29
I just recently lost one of my does to hepatic coccidia and while I keep all of my bunnies in separate cages, the cages are somewhat close and I am really concerned that my 3 other bunnies are at risk of getting it. Especially my pregnant doe. I did treat them all with corid for 5 days about a month and a half ago. Is it safe to do a second round of prevention with corid? What can I safely use on my pregnant/soon to be nursing doe?

I couldn't find anything on the 'net about giving it to pregnant rabbits.
Was it diagnosed by a vet?
Sorry, didn't realize this thread was posted twice.

There was no diagnosis but she had a high cocci count in her droppings and with all her symptoms I really think it was coccidiosis. The vet was completey useless, she thought she was pregnant or something and kept telling me she was a healthy weight when I could clearly see all her bones.
If you are faced with the choice between trying to save her or watching her waste away I would not hesitate to give her the medication. As I said, I could not find anything one way or the other about use in pregnant animals.

I agree, so called rabbit vets are a waste. Been there, cost me $45 and the vet messed up my rabbits teeth.
