I ordered a mint plant that is supppose to smell like a peppermint patty! I got it in the mail yesterday and wow it does smell like a peppermint patty! (the plant is small but very potent!) Has anyone else tried this plant before? I ordered it from R.H. Shumways. Should I plant it away from my other mint plants or does it matter?? Thanks

I've had mine for years. I keep it in a pot and keep repotting a couple of times of year, because like other mints, it's a very vigorous grower. I've never seen it flower, so I've never had a problem with cross-pollination. It's a cultivar derived from peppermint. (Peppermint does not breed true from seeds, and seeds are usually sterile.) If you have your mints in a garden bed, all together, one is sure to out-compete the others. It certainly is a very strong-smelling and tasting herb! But delicious.
