I read that preparation H does wonders on chiggers. before I rush out and buy a bottle or tube, has anyone tried it and does it really work? if no one knows I guess I will do a test run.

Well I can hardly wait to hear the outcome. My kids always come in covered in chiggers. Fingernail polishing is a nightly ritual around here. Keep us posted.

they use to say the polish smothered the chiggers however when you are itching they are long gone
the polish thing is just an old wives tale

i get them every year. try a product called chigger-rid. i found it at walmart. works pretty good, but along the lines of nail polish. i am allergic to the nail polish on my skin, but the chigger rid worked fine.

this sounds crazy but... if you can not itch them for the first day or so, ( i know it's hard not to, but dont) there will be a small blister form where each chigger is. you can take your finger nail and scrape over the blister, and the chigger will pop out with it. put a dab of antibiotic cream or tea tree oil on each one and they will heal right up.

It's funny, but the active ingredient in Preparation H is very useful for lots of things. Movie stars use it around their eyes to remove wrinkles. Never heard of it being used on chigger bites tho...but I'll keep it in mind!

FWIW I know this stuff about prep H because my father worked with the maker of the active ingredient years ago. He swears by the stuff. I've never even seen a tube in person

"Nangerfail" polish has always worked for me. Camphopnique is a pine dirivitive and works well also. Comes in a small green bottle. To keep the critters off I very lightly spray with WD-40(or generic brands) when headed into tall grass or the bush. They do not like the oily smell. wc

:hobbyhors We always used chicken manure for chapped lips, so some of these suggestions might work........ :) :)

Having had the chiggers many times, I feel your pain. Try taking some Benadryl to ease the itchies and help you get some sleep.

As others have said, by the time your body reacts to the fluids the chigger injected into your body so you can be "digested", the chigger is long gone.

The antibiotic cream may be helpful to keep you from getting infected if you have scratched the inflammed area. As for nail polish, it doesn't do anything for the chigger but darn, it really does feel good!

Hot water, hot as you can stand. Helps if you have a shower attachment to direct the water onto the bites. Keep it there till it quits itching and starts feeling yowie hot. That should give you a couple hours at least, then do it again.
