I will do some research on that but I don't beleive it's happening because it's not our regulations but yours that prevent any Canadian cattle from moving across the border. It's all based on WHO regulations that we all agreed to and a policy that Canada and the US worked out when Foot & Mouth hit EU. The only thing I know of crossing the border at this time is boneless cuts of animals under 30 months(I think that's the age). I'm quite sure of my facts because the border and BSE were one of the key topics our new Prime Minister and Mr. Bush spoke of in their meeting in the last couple days and Bush agreed to look into the matter but made no promises. I know that our auctions are still selling on the premise that nothing is crossing and our prices are still quite down. It would also occur to me that the Holstein came from Canada and nothing is going to cross till there is some direct link to how she contracted the disease. Essentially, I really doubt if it's possible for any steers to cross, the US wouldn't even allow Canadian rodeo bulls to travel to the National Finals, even with a solid plan for quarantine and isolation when they were to be at the rodeo. If you hear anything more, it would be wonderful if you could share any information with us.

I just checked the USDA market news for yesterday and they show 902 head of feeder cattle crossing into Washington state Have your export rules changed? The only other livestock crossing were hogs (151,272) and horses(266).Was there a provision that lets you export feeders under a certain age?The local packer buyers are talking about a VERY STEEP discount on any fat cattle they think are over two years at time of slaughter This will do away with a lot of those good 1400pound prime grade cattle at cow prices :no: I see that Canada has low slaughter wieghts compared to ours,Is this because of a similar regulation?If this is the case it might be a good time to get those just weaned calves on a backgrounding program.Prime cattle under two are hard o come by and preconditioned calves should bring the sellor a good price Thanks for any info. you have

Go to cattletoday.com, click on market reports on left side of page,then click on the box marked internationalat top right and select canada which should give you the three reports that i quoted.This report is wa ls635 dated Tues Jan 13.2004 for week ending 01/03/04 There is a very lengthy url at the bottom of the report that i will copy if you can't pursue the report thru cattletoday.Thanks for your response on this matter of mutual interest!This report shocked me and I hope that Iread it incorectly
