What would cause a car (96 Mazda 626) to idle strange. It will idle normal and then either run real high or drop and the car will die.

I think your car is computer managed using the ODB II system. A reputable mechanic can plug in an analyzer and give you a semi-plain English readout of the errors detected. To mess with this car without that readout would be a very poor decision, in my opinion.

My Ford dose this when the AC charge is low but you can guess forever with that symptom
