    Put a piece of black electrician's tape on your monitor over the red number and just leave it there.

    Folks we have a winner!!!

    Also works well for random "warning" lights inside dash of car. Every time I cover the one of a glowing gas pump I shortly run out of gas.

    If it's the one at the top: I hit Mark all forums read which is on the left side. It won't stay permanently away, but it helps =}

    Yes I also do that to make the number as least stay small and low in count for awhile anyways. Then just do it over again. LOL

    What possible purpose does that red thingie serve. I mean, you log-in and it say's 387 new posts.......does some silly programmer think.......they will read all those 387 posts. I realize that the owners and management is making every effort to encourage members to go elsewhere to some other forum......but Yikes that thing is annoying.

    I use it.

    After making a quick run through of the regular forums I visit I do a quick run through of the new posts and clear them out with the "mark forums as read". Then through the rest of the day when I check in I only need to go to the new posts instead of visiting each one I follow individually.

    I have always like the color red. So it is sort of pleasing to my eye. Truthfully, I just noticed it now! On the plus side, nocturnal animals would probably not even notice this, even if they tried.

    You can turn them off. In the navigation pane click on your screen name and then preferences. Uncheck any box that you don't want to apply to you. Capture.PNG

    I think that is for this. Strange, because this is the first I've ever seen of this, just today. Any more 'bells and whistles' we should be expecting soon? :/

    At least you can click in it and "mark as read"....and it goes away.
