    do cals have good size litters and will they weigh 4 to 5# at 8 weeks.how big should nestbox be? i talked to some champ de argent breeders all seemed to have trouble with small litter size so i decided againt them and bought a trio of californians. will cross some with my nz whites

    I cant answer your question about litters but the nest box should be big enough for her to have the babies and move around.

    Californians are a slightly smaller breed than the New Zealands. As such, they will usually require an extra week or two of feeding to reach marketable weights. Even NZW breeders often have difficulty getting 5 lb. fryers by 8 weeks. You may be able to get 4 lb. fryers at 8 weeks, though.
