I have a cactus I got from my Mother when she died 13 years ago. It is 5 1/2 feet tall and has another cactus in the same pot. Haven,t watered this winter as should. The cactus is kind of soft!! Is it ,dieing from lack of water or is it root-bound???I,m thinking it may be root bound.Have it outside now, it has pleny of water, but not too much. Hate to lose it now!!!

You may need to transplant it. When you take it out of the pot it's in, loosen it's roots, cutting a little bit if needed. Look for soil that is specialized for cactus.
When you water it, be sure to water it from the bottom.
