I have several young Californian bucks and this morning, when I was going out to check on a doe who had babies yesterday (7! 6 still alive today! woot!), I discovered the guy laid out on his side, stone dead w/ a bloated stomach. He was fine early today (630am when Rebec was tending the goats) and has shown no signs of being in any distress (unlike the lop who was starving himself by dumping his feed).

Anyone got any ideas to help me figure out wht happened to him?

Could it have been from eating feed that got wet yesterday and molded?

I wouldn't think it would be the food, although it could be. Seems like awfully fast to mold, but the thing that I would suspect is this terribly high heat. Some rabbits just have heart attacks with absolutely nothing else wrong. Hard to tell, but I have lost 2 to the heat this summer, even with keeping fans on and bottles of ice in their cages. Its just way too hot everywhere.

Well, it's been cooler here the last few days, so I wasn't going to automatically blame it on the heat. He's the first one I've lost this year, too, so I guess I'm doing ok so far...
